Living in the desert, dust is a big problem, even without opening windows or doors. Regular 1" MERV 13+ filters work to effectively remove the dust and keep the air and surfaces clean, but, with continuous operation of the HVAC system, require replacement almost weekly.
Enter the 4" Nordic Pure filter. By simply removing the louvered grill on the HVAC return air filter holder in the ceiling, this oversized filter can be installed and held in place by a couple of easily constructed clamps, The results are the same as for the old 1" filter...without having to replace it every couple of days. Monthly replacement, and lower overall cost.
Note: don't do this if you have a slot-filter in your main furnace (unless you upgrade the unit to accept a 4" filter) or if you're not running your fan system continuously.
