Tiger JAY-A55U Micom 3-Cup (Uncooked) Rice Cooker and Warmer

Perfect rice, but you have to have patience.
I've had this rice cooker for over a year now. Tiger has a great reputation, and I wanted a machine that would be accurate and keep rice warm well. This machine uses fuzzy logic to make great rice, but....I'm not sure why this machine takes a loooong time to cook rice. I don't know if it's because the heater is slow in getting the water boiling or what, but I always have to make sure I get the rice cooking first before I do any of the cooking. It's mildly annoying. It shouldn't take 45 mins to cook 3 cups of rice. Anyway, I'm still giving it 4 stars because it does make delicious rice and the machine is well made. One other note: the readout/clock is powered by a battery which you apparently cannot change out yourself. I thought this was weird, but I did know this ahead of time and still bought the machine. Not sure what I'm going to do when the battery dies.

Excelent Rice Cooker
I've had my Tiger Jay-A55 for a week. I bought it on the recommendation of my sister who got one from a friend that lives in Japan. It is clearly a fantastic rice cooker. It's built very well and cooks rice perfectly every time. Every batch has been better than any rice i have ever cook at home before (even when using the 20min quick rice setting). No more dry, burnt, or sticky mush...and the automatic keep warm feature keeps the rice perfect for hours. Definitely restaurant quality rice, worth every penny.

Tiger, where have you been all my life?

Defective inner pot
We bought this cooker while travelling. It performed well at higher (5000 feet) elevation, is compact, and high quality. We loved it at first. Then, it started to develop a roughness on the walls of the inner pot, just above the level of the cooked rice. The rough texture got worse and the little blisters started to break and put coating fragments into the rice. We no longer want to use it. Worse, I tried to get info from Tiger, such as where we could get a replacement pot, and they did not reply to two emails. Looking back, it might have been better to fill the cooker to a higher level, so that maybe the walls would not overheat. Just a guess. Would we buy another one, knowing the problem? Maybe, but not likely unless priced much lower. Another reviewer commented on the limited life of battery - our experience is that the unit will not outlast that battery.
